We Went to Ibiza for the Weekend… and Accidentally Got Married
How a work trip to Spain turned into a last-minute Ibiza elopement with a $150 Amazon wedding dress, press-on nails, a photographer found on Instagram, and absolutely zero planning.
Some people spend a year planning their wedding. We spent about three days. And honestly? I wouldn't change a thing.
I had a work trip planned in Spain, and my fiancé (now husband!) and I decided to tack on a long weekend together. We figured we'd fly from Barcelona to Ibiza, find somewhere beautiful to stay, relax for a few days, drink some wine, eat some good food, and enjoy some much-needed time together.
Very normal.
Very responsible.
Very much not what happened.
The “Why Don't We Just Elope?” Moment
A few days before we left, I had what I can only describe as a completely unhinged but somehow brilliant idea:
Why don't we just get married in Ibiza?
I floated the idea to a few people in our inner circle and then I asked my fiancé. Instead of one of us being the voice of reason, we both essentially said:
“Wait… let's actually do it.”
And that was that! There was no venue hunt, no seating chart, no months of dress shopping, no giant guest list, no wedding planner.
Just two people, an island, and an increasingly ambitious weekend itinerary.
First Stop: 7Pines Ibiza
We found 7Pines Resort Ibiza, which turned out to be exactly what we needed.
Ibiza has a reputation for being all about nightlife and partying, but we wanted something completely different. 7Pines felt calm, beautiful and secluded, much more romantic Mediterranean escape than club until 6 a.m.
And since we had apparently decided to get married with almost no notice, having somewhere beautiful to stay was doing a lot of heavy lifting.
We booked three nights for approximately $2,800.
Then I Had to Find a Wedding Dress
There was just one small problem, I didn't have a wedding dress.
Luckily, I live in the year 2026. So naturally, I went to Amazon.
I found a dress for approximately $150 and thought, Well, this could work.
And by “work,” I mean I ordered it and hoped for the best.
I also needed shoes, so I ordered those too, approximately $216.
Press-on nails? Obviously.
I grabbed some beaded bracelets from a store on the way.
And suddenly I had the essentials for an Ibiza wedding.
Was it traditional?
No.
Was it efficient?
Absolutely.
My Extremely Last-Minute Wedding Shopping List
The whole thing was basically the anti-Bridal Industrial Complex and I loved it.
Finding a Photographer… From the Airplane
At this point, we had decided to get married. We had a hotel, I had a dress, but we still didn't have a photographer.
So while flying to Barcelona, I started searching social media for photographers.
I found someone whose work I loved and sent her a message.
Because apparently that's how you plan a wedding now.
And here's where the universe really came through.
She happened to know an officiant who was available!
A photographer found through social media introduced us to an officiant, and suddenly we had a wedding.
The photographer and officiant together cost approximately €1,000.
And that was basically our wedding planning process.
The Wedding Day
And somehow, despite the fact that we had thrown this entire thing together at the last possible minute, the day was absolutely perfect.
There was no stress about whether everything was going according to plan because...
There was no plan.
We weren't worrying about whether the flowers were exactly right, we picked them from a bush on the way to the “altar!”
We weren't coordinating dozens of people.
We weren't trying to make sure every detail matched some Pinterest board we'd been working on for 18 months.
It was just us.
In Ibiza.
Getting married.
And after the ceremony, we celebrated with cocktails and a little post-wedding reception that cost around $300.
It was relaxed, beautiful and completely us.
So… How Much Did Our Ibiza Elopement Cost?
Here's the part that surprised me the most.
Excluding our travel to Spain/Ibiza and the things we would have paid for on the trip anyway, our wedding-related expenses were surprisingly reasonable.
Photographer + officiant €1,000
Wedding dress $150
Wedding shoes $216
Husband's outfit €100
Cocktails / post-wedding celebration $300
Hotel for 3 nights $2,800
The hotel was obviously the biggest expense, but we would have needed somewhere to stay in Ibiza regardless.
And for a destination wedding at a beautiful resort, we were pretty thrilled with how little we actually spent on the wedding itself.
The Amazon Wedding Dress
The dress deserves its own section because I genuinely still can't believe it.
A wedding dress for approximately $150, ordered online, for a wedding that didn't exist when I ordered it. And I got married in it.
Honestly, 10/10 would recommend this level of chaos
If you're considering an elopement, don't underestimate what you can find online. You don't necessarily need a traditional wedding dress or a traditional anything.
You need something that makes you feel like yourself.
And apparently, I found mine on Amazon.
Why I'm So Glad We Did It This Way
The older I get, the more I realize that there is no single “right” way to do the big moments in life.
We could have planned a traditional wedding and invited everyone.
We could have spent a year picking flowers, tasting cakes and arguing about napkin colors.
Instead, we were in Ibiza.
We had a photographer we'd found on social media, an officiant we'd met through her, a $150 dress from Amazon, press-on nails, bracelets I bought on the way, and each other.
There was something really special about making the decision for us, rather than building a wedding around what we thought a wedding was supposed to look like.
Would I Recommend a Last-Minute Elopement?
If you're thinking about eloping, I'd say this: You don't need to have everything figured out.
Would I recommend waiting until you're on an airplane to find your photographer? Maybe not.
But the spontaneity was part of what made it so memorable. Find somewhere beautiful, wear something you love, hire a photographer whose work makes you happy, get someone to legally marry you.
And then go celebrate!
And Yes… We're Still Having a Party
Because apparently we couldn't completely escape tradition, we decided that we'd still have a celebration with friends and family at some point. But knowing that we already had our little Ibiza wedding, just the two of us, makes that future party feel much more relaxed.
The pressure is gone because we already did the important part.
We said yes.
On an island.
With terrible planning.
And a $150 Amazon dress.
And honestly?
It was perfect.
